FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: What is this “TDC”?
A: The Talent Development Centre (“TDC”) was created to identify and develop athletes with the desire and potential to become Olympic champions in the sport of Rowing. Athletes are identified through a series of tests that target physical markers recognized to support High Performance rowing. Targeted athletes will be given access to world-class services including the deveopment of individualized training programs which target individual strengths and weaknesses. This along with ongoing monitoring allws us to ensure athletes continually progress along an optimal development pathway.
Q:I've never rowed before so can I take part in this program?
A: YES, this program is designed specifically for untrained rowers or new talent. Rowing is a late-development sport so bringing skills from other sports is a great asset, but not necessary.
Q: How old do you have to be?
A: We are looking for athletes that have the potential to be world class. It takes time to groom a champion so the younger the better, but we will test athletes 17 and older.
Q: How much time commitment is it?
A: For the initial period (8-12weeks), you can expect to start with four and grow to eight training sessions per week. After this period, you will either be moved into a higher performance path with the University or National Development Center where you can expect 8-14 practices a week.
Q: How many athletes do you take into the program?
A: We take as many that meet our physical criteria. These are high standards so we do not expect groups bigger than 4-5. These athletes will also be integrated with a larger talent pool of athletes throughout their development.
Q: I've heard that this program runs within Universities. I am not a University student so how does this work for me?
A: CSC Pacific has determined that Universities are great development grounds for elite level rowing. A special agreement has been made to ensure identified non student athletes are integrated within this environment.
Q: What if I am really close to the physical markers but not quite there, can I still try rowing?
A: There is a University/club-based system that will run concurrently to this one, in no way does this mean you are not good enough. Time and time again, the athletes who work the hardest make it to the top. If you are keen, we have a program for you to join and a pathway to the top.
Q: Do I need to supply any of my own equipment?
A: No, the coaches will provide all of that. All you will need are some tight fitting clothing and some running shoes.
