Tier 2 School – are similar to Tier 1 schools in that they are publicly funded and are aimed at high performance National or Provincial level athletes. Tier 2 schools do not have dedicated educational facilities for student-athletes, during regular academic courses they study alongside the “regular”-stream students

Tier 3 School – has sport performance admission requirements that must be met before a student-athlete is accepted. These schools do not have dedicated educational facilities for the student-athletes, and the cost of the program comes out of the athlete’s pocket (it is privately funded).

Tier 4 School – is privately funded (i.e. from the athlete or scholarships/bursaries) and is focused on Provincial or Regional level athletes. There are no performance criteria required for admission and the majority of these schools are based on development athletes, ensuring that the basics of each sport are covered.
