WAYS OF WORKING
In the training environment
- To provide one to one or group support to the athletes during training – this may take place as formal one to one meetings schedule between training sessions or at the end of the day or they may also be informal conversations in and around training
- To attend training camps
- To be accessible by phone/skype or email
- To meet with the coach(es) and keep them informed within boundaries of confidentiality
- To always encourage athlete/coach/mental performance consultant meetings during the training periods
- Maintain communication with support staff within boundaries of confidentiality
- Be prepared to refer an athlete to another practitioner if issues arise which are outside the mental performance consultancy area of expertise i.e., clinical issues such as depression, eating disorders, substance abuse
- To be flexible and adapt to the program and athlete needs so always providing the best support possible
- Develop rapport with athletes and coaches so there is a high level of understanding and comfort when it comes to attending competitions
In the competition environment
- To provide one to one support in the lead up to and on racing days as requested by athlete or coach
- To have established before competition day what, if any, input to athlete or coach during that time and when that would be
- To be prepared to deal with ad hoc or trouble shooting situations which may arise during competition
- To be available throughout competition when in attendance and accessible by phone/skype or email when not there
- To be in communication with coaches throughout a competition
- Maintain communication with support staff within boundaries of confidentiality
