THE BC SPORT SCHOOL – VICTORIA

Canadian Sport Centre Pacific (CSC Pacific) is pleased to introduce an exciting new initiative at our Victoria Campus: the BC Sport School–Victoria. The BC Sport School is designed to provide secondary school aged student athletes with the opportunity to balance educational and training demands in an enriched sport environment while maximizing the credits contributing to the student’s graduation program.

The BC Sport School offers student athletes the opportunity to interact and learn in a world-class sport facility with their peers. Students enrolled in the program will spend half their day at their regular high school and half their day at the BC Sport School at the Pacific Institute of Sport Excellence (PISE).

Students have access to the enriched training environment within the PISE, with on-site training support and access to the world-class sport science and recovery facilities operated by CSC Pacific, including CSC Pacific’s High Performance Training Centre and High Performance Laboratory. The high-performance sport development curriculum of the sport schools is the IGNITE Athlete Development Program, which focuses on the elements of athleticism that build a well-rounded foundation based on balance, strength, speed and explosive power.

Students enrolled in the Sport School will receive all the credits necessary to fulfil the academic requirements of the BC Graduation Program as well as any post-secondary prerequisites required to meet the student’s academic goals. Each student will have a personalized learning and training plan that includes courses in sport and human performance, personal tutoring, as well as time to train, study and compete.

Academic support at the BC Sport School in Victoria is being provided through the Sooke school district 62 (SD 62) and Juan de Fuca Distributed Learning. In addition to courses offered through the student’s home school, the Sport School offers for credit courses including supported on-line courses delivered by Ministry of Education approved distributed learning organizations; Sport Studies and Sport Performance elective courses; individualized multi-sport training courses delivered by CSC Pacific’s high performance sport experts; Independent Directed Study credits for sport specific training; and, courses delivered by Camosun’s Centre for Sport and Exercise Education.
